Paige: "Want to play sticker ball?"
Mama: "I don't know what that is."
Paige demonstrates by throwing a ball at the ceiling.
Mama thinks for a moment. And then it clicks. She is trying to see if the ball will 'stick' to anything.
Sticker Ball.
Clever little girl.

Morning Inspections
Most mornings Paige climbs into bed with me (after she is awake, and I am trying to wake up) and plays with her toys for a while.
There is usually a morning inspection of my face. This consists of careful looking at my eyes, teeth, and chin.
At the end of morning inspection, (I assume, to make sure nothing has gone awry with my face in the night), she pronounces a statement.
Last week's pronouncement: "Oh good! Eyelashes!"
This morning's: "No owies! Good Job!"
What does she think I do in the night?

Daddy's work
Whenever Mike isn't home, Paige asks: "Where's Daddy?"
I reply: "At work."
She always has some type of after-comment.
Last week it was: "Oh. Sleepin."
This morning it was: "Oh. In the chichen."
I always agree.

Mountain of Gold Continued
I am playing the piano and Paige is looking out the north window.
Paige: "MAMA!!"
Mama: "Yes?"
Paige: "My MOUNTAIN is GONE!!!"
Paige: "Oh." pause. silence. "Just clouds are raining on it."
Good thing I never explained that one to her.
Where does she come up with this stuff?

Far Side Cartoons
I have a few books of Gary Larson's Far Side Cartoons.
Paige finds the book and wants to "read" it.
So for 1 hour last night, 1/2 hour yesterday afternoon, and some time this morning I have "read"/"explained" them to her.
How early is too early to each your kid about sarcasm?
I do censor some of them.
I also call them silly pictures.
She LOVES them.

Mount Shasta
This morning I opened the window curtains before the sun came up.
Paige was playing when she runs into the piano room and sees the sunshine on Mt. Shasta.
Paige: "Mama!!! Look!!!! It's a..... it's a....."
Mama: "Mountain?"
Paige: "Its a Mountain! A Mountain of GOLD!!!"

What kind of day will it be?
Mama: "Paige, would you like to come in and have breakfast?"
Paige: "NO! I'm too grumpy."
Hmmmmm. I'm not sure how to respond to that one.

It was worth a try...
We have been trying to transition Paige from the crib to her toddler bed. Today I bought Princess sheets and pillow cases.
Nap time in the crib went flawlessly. YIPPIE!
Bedtime, however, not so much.
1 hour AFTER we put her to bed Mike hears thumping and goes in to investigate. He finds her with her dinosaur rain boots on, a head band on, and all her stuffed animals in a circle in the middle of the floor with Paige running around and around them. Oh. She is playing Duck Duck Goose.
Back to the crib for you kiddo. At least one more night . . .

Cartoons
Paige LOVES watching cartoons. I got a $5 set of dvds with Betty Boop, Popeye, etc. really old black and white cartoons for her to watch. Paige was watching them last night when she turns to me and says: "Mama, I love Deady Boop so much!" I try to instruct her on the proper pronunciation with no success. All day long I hear this: "I want to watch Deady Boop!". Arg.
Counting, um, body parts
Mama is lying on the back porch. Paige is sitting next to her. We practice counting trees.
Paige turns to Mama and says, along with the appropriate finger pointing: "One boob, two boob, three boob!!!"
Mama says: "Mama only has two boobs."
Paige looks down at her little chest and replies: "I have NICE boobs!"
Mama: "Yes you do!"

Breakfast Music
This morning Paige is "sharing" her breakfast. This means she looks sweetly up to me and says: "Share Mama!" and then eats the scrambled eggs that are on my plate. We sit there happily eating eggs and toast and listening to Aaron Copeland for breakfast. The songs ends and she raises her hands, claps wildly for a moment, and then goes back to eating. I'm so glad she approves of the music around here.

Pumpkins can be lots of things
Paige: "Mama, I go watch Punkin-hontas now in my back room."
Translation: "Mama, I'm going to go watch Poca-(breath)-hontas in the back room."

Christmas in where?
Paige wakes up in the middle of the night. Her status is a VERY high fever as well as being sleepy.
Paige:" And then there was the nice little man!"
Mama: "Are you talking about Santa?"
Paige: "Yes!!!"
Mama: "Santa is nice but he only comes at Christmas time and it is not Christmas today."
Paige: "It is in my tummy!" and pats her tummy and smiles at me.
Oh. Had I but known.
